PI Deadline and Notice Requirements Checklist (No Deadlines From Memory)
Builds the deadline and notice checklist for a new PI matter using only the statute text and dates you paste. Every period without supplied text is marked [VERIFY DEADLINE], every computed date shows its arithmetic, and tolling issues come back as questions.
The Prompt
Variables (8)
| Variable | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| {{client_name}} | Client Name | Maria Gonzalez |
| {{incident_date}} | Incident Date | 2026-06-14 |
| {{governing_state}} | Governing State | Colorado |
| {{current_date}} | Today's Date | 2026-10-02 |
| {{defendants}} | Defendants and Their Types | Driver James Ortiz (individual); City of Lakewood Public Works (municipal entity, owner of the truck); unknown maintenance contractor (business). |
| {{key_dates}} | Key Dates and Facts | Client DOB 1984-03-02. Injury known on the incident date. No notice of claim sent yet. Driver has since moved to another state. Liability carrier claim opened 2026-06-20. |
| {{statute_text}} | Statute and Rule Text | Paste the full current text of the limitations statute, the government claims notice statute, and any tolling provisions, each with its citation |
| {{policy_notice}} | Policy Notice Provisions and Lien Letters | UM/UIM policy, Part C conditions: "Notice of a claim must be given to us in writing as soon as practicable..." Health plan subrogation letter dated 2026-08-04 requesting response within 30 days. |
Expected Output
Conflicts between sources (for example two versions of the incident date), then a checklist table (category, defendant or recipient, quoted text and citation, trigger date, period, visible computation, deadline, days remaining, status), tolling and extension questions for the attorney, the preservation and notice letters to send now, missing information, unsupported statements declined and declined requests, and a closing Verification list that ends the output. Any period the attorney did not paste as statute, rule or policy text is shown as [VERIFY DEADLINE]; a period asserted in an email or letter is recorded as "Asserted by <name>, unverified" and nothing is computed from it.
Usage Notes
Use on the day the file is opened and again whenever a new defendant is identified. Paste the current text of the limitations statute, any government claims notice statute, tolling provisions and the notice conditions of each policy; the prompt computes only from what you paste. A period or citation mentioned in a referring attorney's email, an adjuster's letter or your own notes is not statute text: check that the output shows it as asserted and unverified and that no date was derived from it. Failure mode to watch: date arithmetic. Language models miscount days and months, so recompute every deadline by hand or in your docketing software, apply your jurisdiction's counting rules yourself, and never docket a date from this output alone. Not legal advice. The attorney remains responsible for verifying every fact, figure and authority before use.
